RE: Not Just a Plain Ole Cake Mix

I have a great recipe for German Chocolate Cake using a cake mix. I'll post it when the sun comes up and Ronnie is out of bed.

I have made this and it is awesome!!!
I baked a chocolate cake mix, while it was still hot, poked holes in it and poured a can of condensed milk on to the cake. Let it cool and cover with cool whip before serving. It is really good and a little more special that a plain cake.
I have done the same except also added a jar of carmel icecream topping on top of sweetened condenced milk, then add cool whip and crushed heath bars. thus gets rave reviews!!!

RE: seasonal camp site

Seasonal sites offer a completely different type of camping experience that some people love and others don’t. Once we upgraded to the new Jayco, we don’t have a TV that could pull our trailer so this is the only place we camp now. My wife really didn’t know if she was going to like it, but now we both agree it is by far the best solution for us. No more loading/unloading the trailer, setting up, tearing down, hitching and unhitching, etc. All I have to do is turn on the water/gas when I arrive and unload any food or clothes we bring along. Leaving is a matter of loading up any clothes we want to take back with us (we leave clothes at the trailer as well), turn off the water and gas, and lock the doors. I timed myself once – took 4 minutes.
Because camping is much less work now, we go camping so much more than we did before. We went from 9 trips in the hybrid before to using the seasonal site nearly every weekend from spring until fall. We know all our immediate neighbors and the kids made a bunch of new friends. It really feels like a second home.
If you think you might like it, I would suggest taking your time to find not only the right campground but also the right site. Stop and talk with your potential neighbors and really check out each available site.
Good Luck! :B
I agree with everything this poster said. We seasonal camp and use it way more then we did when we towed the TT all over the place. We still take a trip once or twice a yr with the trailer but it is sure nice to head out to the camper Friday evening after work and relax.

Water tank question??????

Ok I am reading about dewinterizing the rv and see how to clean the tanks with bleach solution. What would we do with our holding tanks? We have never hauled water in them always used city water hookups, shouls we still fill the holding tank with bleach/water solution and then pump that solution through the lines and then do it again a few more times with just plain water and pump it through the lines as well?

RE: Who's going out this weekend?

2nd weekend out for us . DD and I braved the cold this past weekend. Friday night was cold and waking up Saturday to 26 degrees was chilly but the weather improved for us to get outside and ride bikes and take a couple of walks. I will be heading back out this Friday. They are calling for rain Friday here in Ohio but the rest of the weekend is looking good.

How about foil packets. I have done fish and chicken in foil. I have also made potatoes and cheese, onions in foil. You can do veggies as well.

RE: 1st time out for the season

As soon as the DW wakes up we're headed for Salt Fork SP (around Cambridge, Ohio). Some friends will join us later and Saturday is dinner at a great winery over there. We've been out several times this winter. I don't mind winterizing the water system because of the enjoyment we've had.
Ohio's got the best SPs I've ever stayed in.

Tried to get reservations at Salt Fork for Mem. weekend but no go all booked up. It is a very nice campground. Enjoy!

1st time out for the season

We have been working on the TT the last couples of Sundays getting ready for the season. I have her all ready to use except the water. I am not draining the lines till mid April in case we keep getting cold snaps here in Ohio. But that is not stopping us. We are headed out this evening to camp. Looks like it will be a chilly night (low 30s) but tomorrow will be in the 40s. I am taking lots of warm clothes and some videos in case it is to cold for outside. I am so excited I had trouble sleeping last night with all the thinking of what I had to take etc. Geesh like a kid at Christmas. Will take lots of water and will be using the shower house this trip but I am so looking forward to using the Hornet again. Heres to a great yr of camping! :B

RE: Hitching made easy now.

I have the hitch aligner that has yellow (looks like tennis balls) mounted on top, they are magnetic. One attaches to truck and other to hitch on camper. They telescope up to a height that is easy to see no matter how high your truck bed is.
It works great and with the same principle as the pictures you show. I can hitch up in less than five minutes now, instead of 49 times of backing up and getting out of truck to look and doing it over and over again.
I bought my set at Cabela's online.
Yes this is what my dad bought us. Glad to hear they work well. Won't be able to test them till Memorial weekend.

Hitching made easy now.

My dad just bought DH and I a MAGNETIC TRAILER ALIGNMENT KIT. We will be testing it Memorial weekend . Has anyone used them before? Dad said it was a show to watch me direct DH hitch up. I guess he felt sorry for him and bought him these to take my place:p

RE: How Many Miss Their Home-Town Food??

There is a restaurant in East Liverpool Ohio called the Hot Dogg Shop that serves the best Chili Dogs in Ohio. I miss that place so much. When ever we are in Eastern Ohio we always make sure we stop in and get a chili dog.

RE: Fire Starters

I use shavings from my supply for my horse barn. I use the "used up" was in my potourri tart burner (small crock pot) in which I also throw candle stubs. When the pot is full I make the egg carton starters that the OP posted.
On another thread, somebody did a similar thing in paper dixie cups, and stuck a birthday candle in.
We have saved dryer lint, too, which we learned from our Girl Scout leader. Didn't know it was toxic.
Re the person who uses toilet paper roll centers- what do you do with them?
If you have egg cartons with the tops that doen't have holes cut out of them- I have filled those with shavings and added wax, to make larger starters- kind of like a quarter of a fire log.
Stuff the TP roll with dryer lint pour melted wax over one end let dry turn over pour over other end and let dry voila done.

RE: To slide or Not slide????

SLIDE! SLIDE! SLIDE! Would never buy another TT without one. Been there done that won't do it again! We love the added room it gives us and it is important to us since we have 2 kids and a dog that goes with us everywhere. If it rains or the weather is bad and we are stuck inside this really helps us out so we aren't on top of each other.

RE: Fire Starters

As a Girl Scout we always made fire starters out of a paper egg carton, some sawdust and melted paraffin wax like these.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/cruzette1/Misc%20pics%202008/003.jpg height=460 width=680
However I made some fire starters out of cupcake holders (set in an old muffin pan) sawdust and melted paraffin wax. After they were fairly set I stuck in a candle.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/cruzette1/Misc%20pics%202008/002.jpg height=460 width=680
They looked almost good enough to eat!
These are great ideas. I am currently collecting dryer lint and toilet paper rolls to make fire starters.

RE: snow on TT

I was wondering this myself. Ohio is getting hit hard with a snow storm as well today and into tomorrow. We aren't supposed to be driving on the roads so it would be hard for us to have to go out to the campground and clean our trailer off.

Long cold and boring winter...what to do but shop for TT...

I have been jonesen to camp bad here this past month or so. It is to cold to get out for us in Ohio. So I have been shopping for things we MUST have for the trailer. Lets see so far I got a curved shower curtain for Dh to install, a over the door towel rack for kitchen cupboard, adjustable spice rack for DH to install, a few rooster accessories for the kitchen, new lights for outside I got after Christmas . We will put them at our site out at the seasonal campground. Oh yeah I also bought collapsible measuring cups and bowls, and soon will get the collapsible collendar. This should free up some cupboard space. So how about you what have you been buying that you just MUST have for your trailer this winter?
